Nigerians List 7 Things Which Forced KFC to Shut Down Operations in Lagos

Seven days ago Lagosians woke up to the news that fast-food outlet KFC will be shutting down its operations in Nigeria's commercial capital.

As a result, KFC Outlets in popular areas such as Ilupeju, Sabo, Ikeja, Ogba and other parts of Lagos metropolis will effectively close with residents unable to buy food

KFC say they will only leave KFC shops located in shopping malls.

Why did KFC shut down? The firm attributed low patronage and high cost of power for its actions but here's what Nigerians are suggesting:

1. They expanded too early too quickly.
"When KFC was spreading like wildfires, I wondered if they were executing a well researched & developed business case or spreading wt d hope of shaping our taste. Alas, the strategy hasn't fully worked out," - @detunjiprimo via Twitter

2. They didn't serve local dishes like eba, rice and beans, etc. -

"Someone once said, one of KFC's major problem was that they did not sell Nigerian delicacies like Eba, Rice and beans etc. Do you agree?" @ugodre via twitter

3. Their delicacies didn't contain enough pepper. "spices was a major problem, not enough pepper in dishes. We love our pepper here." @aminraji via Twitter

4. Bad business climate. "it is so sad businesses shut down due to low sales and high cost of power," - Muyiwa Olumide.

5. The fast-food industry is "cold" - Oluseun

6. They didn't merge with Chicken Republic.

"KFC and Chicken Republic should merge, the same way we have Ministry of Power, Works and Housing. Chicken is Chicken! " - Davide467 via Nairaland

7. The company's management aren't up to the task - Saintdennis via Nairaland
